The Mission -

my ray of light from darkness

The genesis of these pictures was far more utilitarian than the end product would suggest. A dancer friend of mine wanted new photographs for her folio before beginning a tour of Japan. A session was arranged.

What started as a fairly standard shoot soon became something more. With Ennio Morricone's soundtrack to The Mission playing, the music soon began to inform the shoot, changing the way the dancer moved in front of the camera and influencing my creative choices.

When I discovered she could go up on points and do the stretching, I wanted to reveal her form - like sculpture coming out of the light.  These shots are a genuine collaboration between the subject, the photographer and the music and became a five page editorial in Black and White Magazine.
